Welcome to Positively Filipino
/I got married (again) in 2010, and my brood now includes two sons, two daughters-in-law and four grandchildren. I visit the Philippines at least twice a year to see my father who is turning 90 this coming February and to spend time with my older son and his family and my siblings. I enjoy traveling, so I visited Peru, New Zealand, China and the Scandinavian countries in the past years. And I have gotten involved in many Asian American non-profits and small projects for the community every now and then. So my plate has been full.
But I would bump into some of you at events, and again you would ask, “Why not a new magazine? There is nothing else out there. We have lost our voice.” I, too, felt that way but I didn’t know if we could recapture the magic of twenty years ago. But I believe in the story of the Filipino, so here’s another shot.
POSITIVELY FILIPINO fills a need not only in cyberspace, but also in our own consciousness. As Filipinos become more visible and acknowledged worldwide, we need to let each other and other people hear our stories and ideas. We need to share our dreams and aspirations and be part of the global community. We need a site where people can find anything Filipino, good stories and good writing, one with a Filipino voice and perspective that will make us proud to be Filipino.
Together with my former editors at Filipinas Magazine, Rene Ciria-Cruz and Gemma Nemenzo, former art director Raymond Virata and newcomer F. M. Ricarte, the tech evangelist who teaches us everything we need to know about the Internet and social media, we have created this Beta Blog to get you started on POSITIVELY FILIPINO. We intend to formally launch on January 1, 2013 with a fully constructed website. In the meantime, please read our stories in this Beta Blog. It's an introduction to what you will find in POSITIVELY FILIPINO. Submit your own stories and give us feedback. And if you like this Beta Blog, please pass it along to your friends and relatives, then become a regular visitor to the POSITIVELY FILIPINO website once we are fully launched. Check it out as often as you want because we will be updating it regularly.
Thank you for your support and encouragement. We hope you will join us on this journey.
Maligayang Pasko at Masaganang Bagong Taon sa inyong lahat! A Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all of you!
