Important Notice for DACA Recipients with 3-year Work Permits
/US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is contacting some Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Recipients who received 3-year approval periods on their Employment Authorization Documents (EAD cards), to inform them that these cards were mistakenly sent and that they must return the 3-year EADs to USCIS. This affects DACA recipients who were mistakenly sent the cards after a February 16, 2015 court order was in place prohibiting issuing cards for longer than two years.
USCIS has issued affected recipients new 2-year EAD cards. We have been informed that USCIS may call, send a letter, or even make a home visit in a very limited number of cases– but individuals should not be alarmed if contacted by USCIS. Affected DACA recipients should have received one or more letters from USCIS about returning the 3-year EAD card, so individuals concerned about their situation should call or visit USCIS immediately.
Please note this action is being conducted by USCIS and does not involve Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
IMPORTANT: THESE STEPS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED TO AVOID LOSING DACA STATUS OR WORK AUTHORIZATION. DACA Recipients who received a 3-year EAD letter or who are concerned about their situation, should take the following steps immediately or by July 21, 2015:
1. Make a copy of your current EAD card, both the front and back, and the 3-year EAD approval notice. Keep these for your records.
2. Visit USCIS at 444 Washington Street, San Francisco CA to present the 3-year EAD card. No appointment is necessary. USCIS walk-up window hours are Monday- Friday 9am- 3pm.
3. The return of the 3-year EAD must be completed on or before July 21, 2015.
