Lordy Rodriguez, a Stanford MFA graduate now teaching, explores the language of maps as metaphors for psychological states and cultural differences. His latest series, Strangerhood, commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission for the Art on Market Street Kiosk Poster Series, reimagines factual locations to create fictional territories.
On exhibit at bus kiosks on Market Street and between the Embarcadero and 8th St. until April 11, 2014 are six maps depicting Chinatown, North Beach, The Mission, The Castro, Haight-Ashbury, and Fisherman’s Wharf -- all reimagined by Rodriguez as independent countries.
