The killing of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody has triggered protests that are adamantly demanding a systematic end to racist police abuse and the longstanding racial discrimination suffered by Black Americans. Now an unprecedented global phenomenon, this unrest has also sparked deep conversations and reflections on racist attitudes among non-Black Americans, including the Filipino community.

Speaker: Evelyn Ibatan Rodriguez is the Chair and an Associate Professor for the University of San Francisco’s Department of Sociology, and is the only tenured Filipina at the University.
Speaker: Anthony Ocampo, Sociology professor at Cal Poly Pomona, he is the author of The Latinos of Asia: How Filipino Americans Break the Rules of Race.
Moderator: Rene Ciria-Cruz is the US Bureau Chief of INQUIRER.net and an editor at Positively Filipino.
Facilitator: Bien Hernandez-Ver is a Filipino American activist, boosting immigrant, BIPOC, and Queer voices. Born in Manila, raised in California, he now lives with his husband in Columbus, OH.
