Authors and participants from the Philippines, Great Britain, Canada and from the United States gather to entertain, educate, and entice the public to the diversity of Filipino creativity from literature to film and textiles. The festival opens this Friday, October 2, 2015 with the screening of Nic Tiongson’s Women of Malolos at 2:00 P.M. in the Koret Auditorium [free admission, doors open at 1:30]. 

The audience will hear authors read from their most recent works in Hot Off The Press and in a variety of panels such as Creating Writing Communities–Kundiman, VONA; Completely Mixed Up: Mixed Heritage Asian North American Writing and Art; Beyond Lumpia, Pansit and Seven Manangs Wild; Flips Anthology; FWN’s Disrupt; Tayo Literary Magazine; Kearny Street Workshop; {m}aganda magazine. Authors will discuss process and direction in panels focusing on Filipino American literature, Filipino arts and literature, writing for young readers, challenges of translation, among others. 

Participants will engage in discussion of politics and history related to the Filipino diaspora. Come find out what Speculative Fiction is from one of its leading proponents. While at the festival, visit the Asian Art Museum to view Piña: An Enduring Philippine Fabric, the educational display organized by PAWA’s The Hinabi Project in partnership with the Asian Art Museum. Learn more about  Philippine textiles at a panel on Sunday.
