On Monday as we were conducting a Zoom townhall with Rep. Adam Schiff about COVID-19 resources, our Zoom feed was hacked by #WhiteSupremacists who shouted racial epithets on screen and taunted our members with the Nazi salute ("Sieg Heil!") and pro-Trump messages in the chat.
Anti-Asian hate crimes have seen a dramatic rise since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Those in the highest positions of power have tried to shift blame to Asians and used racist language in their discussion of the pandemic. As a result, our community has seen assaults and intimidation at a scale we have not seen for years. What happened to us is just a small example of what is happening all over the United States -- and our Department of Justice is doing nothing to stop it.
