Geologist Jenny Anne Barretto in 2014 discovered a large volcanic crater (caldera) formed by a major eruption, the Apolaki Caldera, in Benham Rise (Philippine Rise) in the northern part of Philippines. It is the world’s largest caldera (See Vismin.ph for story).
A Filipina scientist recently published a research on what could possibly be the largest caldera in the world. Jenny Anne Barretto, a New Zealand-based marine geophysicist, described the existence of the Apolaki Caldera within the Benham Rise (See ABS CBN News for story).
