Rear Adm. Raquel C. Bono

Rear Adm. Raquel C. Bono was nominated by the Obama administration for promotion to vice admiral of the US Navy and as director of the Defense Health Agency (DHA), as announced by Defense Secretary Ash Carter on Friday, January 29, 2016.

If confirmed, Bono will be the highest ranking Filipino American naval officer in the U.S. She is the granddaughter of a Filipino World War II veteran.

Bono and her brother, Rear Adm. Anatolio B. Cruz III, now retired, made history a few years ago for being the first and only siblings of Filipino descent to be flag officers of the US Navy simultaneously, the DHA website reported.
