WOW Voices Now: A Morning of Readings and Refreshments

“WOW Voices Now: A Morning of Readings and Refreshments,” an annual conference at Skyline College featuring women on writing, will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 9:30-12:30 p.m.

Where: Skyline College, 3300 College Drive, San Bruno, CA 94066 (Building 6, Room 6202, Second Floor)

This event honors International Women’s Day and brings together students, faculty, staff, and the community to celebrate writers and readers. All are welcome. WOW! Voices Now was founded by Marijane Dotson, a retired English professor from Skyline College, and is coordinated by adjunct professor Kathleen McClung. The conference is free, but donations are welcome and appreciated.

The 2019 conference will feature  San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto and award-winning fiction/nonfiction writer Jacqueline Doyle.

Aileen Cassinetto is the third Poet Laureate of San Mateo County, the first Asian American appointed to the post. She is the author of Traje de Boda (Meritage Press, 2010) and The Pink House of Purple Yam Preserves & Other Poems (Our Own Voice & Little Dove Books, 2018), as well as three chapbooks through Moria Books’ acclaimed Locofo series. She is also co-publisher of Paloma Press, an independent literary press established in 2016. 

Jacqueline Doyle’s flash fiction collection The Missing Girl (winner of the Black River Chapbook Competition) was published by Black Lawrence Press in fall 2017. She has published creative nonfiction, fiction, and flash in literary journals such as The Gettysburg Review, Southern Humanities Review, Quarter After Eight, [PANK], Sweet, Monkeybicycle, matchbook, The Pinch, Wigleaf, Catamaran Literary Reader, NOR: New Ohio Review, Hotel Amerika, Post Road, and The Collagist. Her work has earned six Pushcart nominations, four Best of the Net nominations, and numerous prizes (including first place in Midway Journal's 2017 flash contest, judged by Michael Martone). Two of her flash were awarded Finalist listings in Best Small Fictions 2018 and four of her essays were awarded Notable Essay citations, in Best American Essays 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2018.
