Show of Farce

The Philippine Bureau of Customs last Monday charged 10 flight attendants of an airline for bringing in a total of 40 kilos of onions and fruits from the Middle East amid overpriced commodities in the local market. Senators and ordinary folks raise their concern over the high-handed action.

Global Filipino Nation (GFN) has this to say:

The BOC showed:
• the height of absurdity by labelling non-commercial pasalubongs of onions as smuggling;
• ignorance of the law on what constitutes commercial imports;
• misplaced exercise of police power;
• impotence in apprehending the powerful smugglers of onions; and
• deference to DA officials who turn their heads away from the opaque sham.

The BOC should:
• be censured; and
• have a new management with quality cranial endowment.
