REEF Announces Fundraiser to Continue Support in the Philippines
/The proceeds from the ticket sales will support renewable energy projects in the Philippines for rural families and communities that live off the electrical grid. In the first quarter of 2014, the Renewable Energy Enterprises Foundation distributed 500 solar lanterns in the islands between Cebu and Negros where thousands of Filipinos were left without electricity months after Typhoon Yolanda.
The four hour afternoon Lawn Bowling Tournament includes free lawn bowling lessons, music, food and drinks, and a chance to win $500 and other raffle prizes. REEF’s overall fundraising goal is $5,000 net.
Founder and President, Ralph Chesley, comments, “It’s a chance to learn about the Renewable Energy Enterprises Foundation and how it provides a clean solution for the basic needs of impoverished families all over the world.”
About REEF
Renewable Energy Enterprises Foundation is a volunteer-supported organization that addresses energy poverty for 1.2 million Filipinos who lack access to electricity. Its Family First Program identifies the poorest families living off the electrical grid in the provinces of Zambales, Bulacan, and Bataan. Such families rely on solid fuels such as wood, dung, crop residues, charcoal, and kerosene for both light after dark and for cooking with crude stoves or open fires. To-date, the Renewable Energy Enterprises Foundation has been able to distribute solar lamps to almost 2,000 families in need. By offsetting 30% of a family’s cooking and lighting expenses with renewable energy and sustainable practices, the families can divert funds to healthcare and education.
