Chicago, IL — The League of Chicago Theatres proudly announces Charlette San Juan, a celebrated Filipino stage manager, as the recipient of the 2024 Broadway in Chicago Backstage Champion Award. This prestigious accolade was presented during the League’s annual gala on October 8, 2024, recognizing San Juan’s extraordinary contributions to Chicago’s theatre community.
The Broadway in Chicago Backstage Champion Award honors individuals whose behind-the-scenes efforts profoundly impact the success of productions and elevate the theatre industry. San Juan's dedication, expertise, and advocacy for inclusion have made her a standout leader in her field.
“It's not often that Stage and Production Managers have the opportunity to stand on this stage and receive such a prestigious award, so this moment is truly special for me,” San Juan said during her acceptance speech. “As a Filipino immigrant who moved to the United States five years ago to pursue a career in theater, I am a living example of the warm and inclusive nature of the Chicago theater community. It's a privilege to be in this room with individuals who share the same passion for theater, and I feel it's now my duty to convey this message — let's continue to support and nurture Filipino and Asian talent. I can assure you, it's absolutely worth it.”

As an understudy stage manager for both stages at Second City, she has been instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of some of Chicago's most beloved productions.
