Asian American Arts Alliance Accepting Proposals for 2017 Jadin Wong Award for Emerging Asian American Choreographer
/The Asian American Arts Alliance, with support from the New York Community Trust, is excited to announce the launch of the 2017 Jadin Wong Award for Emerging Asian American Choreographer. Now in its fourth year, the Jadin Wong Award will be awarded to an Asian American choreographer age 30 or under based in New York City.
The recipient of the Jadin Wong Award will receive a $4,500 cash stipend to be used toward the pursuit of professional development opportunities in choreography. The awardee will be selected through an open call jury process. Applicants will be evaluated based on the artistic quality of their work, the community impact they hope to make on New York City’s artistic community, and how they intend to use their funds to further their professional development.

Previous awardees include Jesse Obremski (Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, Smashworks Dance Collective, and the Limón Dance Company), Takehiro Ueyama (TAKE Dance), and Daisuke Omiya (New National Theater, Tokyo).
Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the information session for the 2017 Jadin Wong Award for Emerging Asian American Choreographer on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The 90-minute information session will include background and logistics of the awards process, as well as pointers on preparing a strong application. The Jadin Wong Award is a tribute to the life and work of renowned Chinese American actress, dancer, and comedienne Jadin Wong (1913–2010). Since her teenage years, Ms. Wong had been a pioneer and innovator for Asian American performing arts, performing in venues throughout America, Europe, and Asia and founding her own arts management company which specializes in representing Asian American talent, paving the way for future Asian American performers. She established the Jadin Wong Educational Fund at the New York Community Trust to support aspiring artists, musicians, and dancers of Asian descent.
The Asian American Arts Alliance is a not-for-profit service organization dedicated to strengthening Asian American arts and cultural groups through resource sharing, promotion, and community building.
