[PARTNER] Top Filipino American Authors, Chefs, Documentary Films and a Balagtasan Headline Book Festival

The 2nd Filipino American International Book Festival (Filbookfest) is taking place starting Friday, Oct. 18 until Sunday, Oct. 20 at the San Francisco Main Library on 100 Larkin St. at the Civic Center (take BART or Muni to the Civic Center station).

Brought to you by the Philippine American Writers and Artists, Inc. (PAWA), the San Francisco Public Library and its Filipino American Center, and the Philippine Consulate in cooperation with Chevron, the University of San Francisco's Yuchengco Philippine Studies Program, and TFC, Filbookfest offers an array of events that showcase the best and most enduring aspects of Filipino culture.

Among its highlights:

  • hundreds of books for sale by authors of Filipino heritage and about the Philippines;

  • panels and workshops on various topics (see schedule) featuring leading Filipino authors and publishers;

  • the special participation of Alejandro MurguiaSan Francisco's poet laureate (Saturday, Oct 19, 11:15 am -12:15 pm);

  • a discussion on Filipino food and the emerging Filipino Food Movement, led by Claude Tayag, one of the leading culinary luminaries in the Philippines (Sunday, Oct. 20, 12:30-1:30 pm);

  • the BALAGTASAN, a uniquely Filipino debate in verse which was the biggest hit in the first Filbookfest, featuring the foremost practitioners of the art form from the Philippines (Sunday, Oct. 20, 3:30 – 4:30 pm);

All activities will take place at the San Francisco Main Library's Koret Auditorium and Latino Rooms A and B. The San Francisco Main Library is located at 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco 94102.
